About the Position

Career Opportunity: 
The City of Las Vegas Parks & Recreation department invites applications for Monitor. 

May include assignments in, but not limited to: Recreation Centers, Senior Centers, Sports Office, Cultural Centers, Park Entry Booths, Adaptive Recreation Centers, Active Adult Centers, Sports Centers/Complexes, Seasonal Camps, Aquatics Centers/Pools 

This is an hourly level/ part-time position. Scheduled hours for this position are limited to 19 hours or less per week  (Shift will vary based on the needs of the programs and facility).  Hourly employees are also limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18 month period.  

Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff.


The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current/future openings.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Be a main point of contact that interacts with customers
  • Scan the facility for safety concerns, damage, and repair and report them to designated classified staff. 
  • Participate in setting up and tearing down of equipment from events
  • Help clean the area while monitoring and reporting any inappropriate behavior of customers to designated classified staff. 
  • Detailed reporting to properly notify leads of any accidents or injuries of customers/participants. 
  • Ensure that all customers have checked in to the front desk
  • Ensure the safe/proper use of all facility equipment
  • Participate in the Monitoring/Scoring of Games (indoor/outdoor) for City Sports Leagues and reports scores, field conditions, and participant issues to designated classified staff. 
  • Be responsible for distributing first aid equipment supplies and ensuring the proper "positive" behavior/conduct of all participants, parents, coaches, and officials. 
  • May take part in officiating City of Las Vegas Sports Leagues on an "as needed" basis. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum 16 years of age.  
  • Formal and informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.    
  • Bilingual skills are desirable. 
  • First Aid/CPR and AED certifications preferred but not required.
When assigned to the Sports Office, will require the following: 
  • Ability to maintain a current, valid driver's license.  
    • If employed by the City of Las Vegas for 6 consecutive months or longer, a Nevada driver's license required.  
  • Successful completion of the City of Las Vegas Defensive Driving course.    

When assigned as an official/referee for City of Las Vegas sports leagues, will require the following:      

  • An understanding of the rules of adult and/or youth sports and how to enforce the rules.
  • Possess good communications skills to interact with players, coaches and parents in appositive manner.
  • Display poise and use good judgment.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship.
